No company is too big to use tape!

Google has recently apologised to tens of thousands of Gmail users who lost some of their email during a recent software update (incidentally, who knew that Gmail was still in beta?)

However the company, who promised their customers in a recent blog that they get ‘best-in-class disaster recovery for free’, is one of the world’s biggest users of storage tapes, and was able to locate most, if not all, of the missing emails. “Since the tapes are offline, they’re protected from such software bugs,” Google explained.

This proves that, whatever companies such as Google might claim about the reliability of storing email ‘in the cloud’, it still makes sense to have offline backups, and there is no better company than DRS to take care of your media storage requirements.

We’re committed to making sure that, whatever happens in the real or virtual worlds, you need never worry about the security of your data. Visit one of our highly discreet depots, and you’ll see the attention to detail and security we offer to all our media and document storage customers. Nothing is too much trouble, no corners are ever cut – and that’s from storage to destruction, from secure courier services to media sales, we’re the company of choice for hundreds of organisations, large and small, wanting to be sure

Environmental Award for Disaster Recovery Services Ltd

Following their recent independent assessment, Disaster Recovery Services Ltd has been awarded ISO 14001 certification. This certification is only achieved by less than 1% of UK businesses and this prestigious award is supported by the Government and recognised world-wide.

A delighted Adam Haworth – Managing Director said “We have always been proud of the service we offer our clients and the way that we conduct our business with regard to environmental matters. Now with the award of ISO 14001 certification, this has been confirmed by outside experts who judge standards on a daily basis in a wide variety of trades and industries”.

Steven Carter, who undertook the assessment on behalf of QMS Quality Management Systems paid particular tribute to “the investment in people and training that enables DRS-Ltd to provide an efficient and environmentally friendly service to their customers.”

DRS delighted to announce acquisition of surescan

This week, DRS are proud to announce an investment that has the potential to change our business offering dramatically: the acquisition of surescan.

With their vision of ´realising the paperless office´, surescan has long offered clients a range of services, including cataloguing, document scanning, indexing, image retrieval, document storage and back-up, microfiche, microfilm and aperture card scanning.

Combining our own UK coverage and document storage experience with surescan´s document scanning expertise, we will now be able to offer DRS customers a ´one stop shop´ for document archiving, digitisation, retrieval and destruction.

For surescan, this means a slight name change, becoming DRS-surescan. Their customers will receive the same high level of local, friendly service from the same reliable team that they´re used to, with the added benefits of our wider secure courier and storage network. The move also extends our UK coverage with the addition of the new DRS South West site, near Bristol.

Most crucially, DRS customers will now benefit from “Scan on Demand” a service that dovetails fantastically with our own offering. We currently retrieve securely stored documents physically, so scanning offers a greener, quicker, cheaper and easier method of document recall.

“This is really great news for DRS. Surescan compliments us perfectly and we are confident that our new Bristol site, with its exciting range of services, will further satisfy our valued customers´ needs. Welcome aboard!”

DRS Managing Director, Adam Haworth

“This is fantastic news for everyone at surescan, including our loyal customers who´ll now benefit from an even wider range of services. Our two businesses compliment each other greatly and we look forward to adding to the DRS offer”

Surescan Managing Director, Lynn Broughton
